I grew up in central/southern California, and spent loads of time hiking and traipsing through oak forests, picking oak moss to use as kindling for campfires and craft projects, so I think I have a bit of a frame of reference for what this oil should smell like. This essential oil, does not, to my recollection, smell anything like the oak moss of my youth. As I remember it, oak moss had a dry, woodsy, green, dried-grass/reed smell, that had a pungency as vinegar, but with out the astringency of a metallic acid. This expression of "Oak Moss smells akin to the fragrance in Johnson's baby powder or baby oil plus a faint floral note, and one of cinnamon. It's too sweet, and too powdery, without much in the way of the earthy forest smells I remember. 2 stars, because maybe my nose is busted, and I don't have access to real oak moss to compare this oil too anymore. For 6 dollars, it was worth a shot; maybe it'll work for you.

This oil is okay, but not as "strong" or rich with the earthy scent as others I've had in the past. This item is VERY hard to find, so I was glad to have it.

Since ordering this I've learned that real oakmoss is a green or brown liquid, and comes as an 'absolute,' not an essential oil, as it's usually solvent-extracted. However, I *love* the scent. It does smell like No More Tears baby wash--but only because they must use synthetic oakmoss! (I just smelled No More Tears for the first time since childhood, and it overwhelmingly reminds me of Geoffrey Beene's "Grey Flannel," which uses some form of oakmoss heavily.)

As oakmoss is supposedly sensitizing, this is a good alternative for those concerned about that.

I purchased this moisturizer because I was looking for something that would keep my skin hydrated while also treating my acne. I'm afraid this wasn't the best product for me to choose, however. It doesn't contain a sunscreen, for one, so it's not great for the daytime. It does contain salicylic acid, but only .5 percent which is not a great deal, although if you do suffer from dry skin it can irritate it. I have pretty oily skin so that isn't a problem for me, but I also struggle with moderate adult acne and don't feel this is strong enough to really take care of it. I used this for a few weeks in addition to my normal skincare routine and saw no changes.

The lotion goes on clear and dispenses from a pump top for easy application. You get a full 4 ounces for the price.

I would say this product would be great for someone who breaks out with light acne very occasionally, and who is looking for a *nighttime* moisturizer for the oily areas of the face. Use something different if your skin is dry and/or prone to moderate or severe acne.

I've been using this product for about a decade now. I've tried others. This soaks in easily and isn't greasy. It's nice to have that little bit of anti-acne stuff in the product, but I'd use this even without that ingredient. I have oily skin and it seems to go well in the different environments I've lived in.

I bought this because I have combination oily and dry skin while suffering from acne. I wanted a moisturizer for my noise which gets dry and flaky that wouldn't be too heavy and wouldn't aggravate my acne. This product didn't help the dryness at all. After reading the back, it actually says it may cause dryness and peeling. It also seemed to aggravate my acne. I use other medications prescribed by a dermatologist, so I don't know if the interaction with the other creams may have caused the extra break out, or if it was this moisturizer. Either way, I will not be using this product any longer.

I'm twenty nine and have always had acne and very oily skin. I've tried quite a few regimens and products. This moisturizer works really good for me. Two or three times a week, at night, I apply Queen Helene's Mint Julep mask and let it dry for about 30 minutes. I then wash it off or sometimes use an electric toothbrush (not the one for my teeth!!) and use it to gently massage my face as I wash off the mask with cool water. I then use this moisturizer every night after washing or using this mask. In the morning, I wake up, wash my face with warm water and apply some more of this moisturizer. I did suffer from breakouts constantly, but my face has almost cleared after using these products and my usually oil-drenched face, an hour after showering before, no longer shines--I say about an 90% shine reduction! I still get a little oily after a few hours but nothing like I've suffered with for the past 15 years! This has helped me feel so much better about myself and less self-conscious when talking to people. Also, along with this, I have been drinking 1 or 2 Emergen-C Vitamin C Acai each day, along with just lots of water throughout the day. I have always been an avid consumer of water, but I've added the vitamin C recently, which I've heard is really good for your skin. Everything is just working together. This regimen is great and works wonders for my skin! I have finally found just what I needed! I hope others will have the same experience! I got most these products at Walmart and Walgreens. Peace.

Great product for the price.

Wonderful for dry or "mature" skin. I use it with Avalon organic face creams and serums in place of more expensive creams and it works just as well as Regenerist, Arbonne, and Philosopyhy products.

I bought the 2-in-1 for our 9 year old daughter who's now using it every night to wash her face but she's not the only user. I'm now using it myself every night to wash my face.

The makers went to great lengths to make this the kind of product you'd find that you couldn't do without after trying it for the first time. Here are the facts as I'm reading them off the bottle and as I/we experienced it:

98% plant and fruit-derived natural ingredients: cocnut, palm and sugarcane

as allergy-free as they come (on the bottle it says 'allergy tested' and 'dermatologist tested'

as gentle to the eyes as pure water they claim and I agree that it's my experience

paraben free

dye free

essential oil free

at least 60% of the bottle comes from recycled materials

Like I said, I ended up using it myself because a minuscule amount makes my face squeaky clean and literally so and it does it in the gentlest imaginable way. My skin is quite irritable but this product is well tolerated. I can't think of a better way to wash my face before going to bed at night.

One thing that may take some use to. Since there are no perfumes or fragrances, the product appears to 'smell funny' when used for the first time. My daughter says it's like what it smell when mommy is ironing. It's true but after a few uses I am now associating that smell with 'my skin loves this'.

I realize it's designed for small hands, but it squirts out a little pathetic foam each time, and doesn't lather very well. Not that it matters a ton, but it doesn't smell very good either. I really liked their bath soap (not foaming) so thought this would be perfect, but it just doesn't work for us.

I purchased this to add to the water in my Water Pik. I add about 3 drops to the water, and it seems to work great. Only thing is, it doesn't actually mix with the water, so I didn't realize that the essential oil was gumming up in the bottom of the tank. So, although it is good for the gums, if you use this in your Water Pik, it is a good idea to rinse the tank out after using it, so leftover oil doesn't build up in a sticky residue. Using this oil in the water is not only good for my gums, it leaves a wonderful taste in my mouth that lasts for hours. As far as a comparative quality of the essential oil, I am not knowledgeable enough about the oils to make comparisons between brands. I only know that it is working for me.

I used the cinnamon oil in a home made sugar scrub, it had a strong, but pleasant smell of cinnamon. A little goes a long way, so you can get a lot out of the small bottle.

I heard this oil is good for reducing the effects of scaring after surgery. My scar after my foot operation was large and very dark and I put make-up on it when I want to wear sandals, but it is still quite disfiguring. After reading a couple other reviews that were negative about the performance of this avalon organics rosemary conditioner, I will add that I usually love this product but I did get one bottle, probably a year ago, that seemed really different in result. Instead of the silky smooth feel of my hair after rinsing, the "off" bottle left my hair feeling as if I'd applied nothing. I was able to comb through it more easily than if I actually had used nothing, but it was not the same. A few more tangles and snarls than I typically have to work through after using a conditioner. I took a chance and ordered the shampoo and conditioner again, and voila!, back to the formulation I was used to. A bad batch?!

Apparently the formula was changed. When applying it feels like nothing has been applied, but when I dry my hair it feels as if I haven't washed my hair in 5 days. It just leaves my hair all oily and greasy and completely ugly. I used to love this brand, now I won't buy any more from them.

I've enjoyed this oil for several years, mainly because of the great patchouli aroma. Unfortunately, this aroma was notably absent from my most recent bottle, smelling much more like rose and sage, its secondary ingredients. I contacted the manufacturer who explained that they have changed providers of patchouli oil; they also mentioned that they may increase the amount of patchouli oil in the formula depending on customer feedback. Until such changes are made, I would not currently recommend this oil because it falls short as a patchouli-scented oil. That said, it has a great feel, and it's moisturizing properties are second to none. If the formula is re-adjusted to match its former smell, easy five stars.

Yummy!

This fragrance is very musky and mushroomy. It mixes with your body chemistry, making you smell a little earthier. I love this scent by itself, but many will prefer to mix it with something sweet or floral to tone down the mossiness. Sandalwood or amber mixes beautifully with it. If you are an earth Goddess, spray this all over you and close your eyes. You're running through a moist forest.

I'm not a fan of very strong or flowery scents -this has a wonderful fresh smell from the lavender and sandalwood with a burst of summer from the infusion of rose. If you have never used a natural perfume before, it's the way to go! I get compliments on the subtle but lovely fragrance almost every day. This product is a must have for anyone with dry skin. I have very dry skin, and you can tell when I am out of Botanoil. I apply it to my face every morning and evening and it keeps my skin looking soft and healthy. It absorbs fairly quickly into the skin so it doesn't leave a greasy residue behind. I have used this product for years and nothing works as well. I have tried many lotions and creams and all fall way short in comparison. Lotions can hurt when applied to very dry skin. Botanoil is an all natural oil that can be applied directly to your skin, you can squirt a little in your bath water. It can even be cooked with. I personally have never tried that one, but that's what they say. It make a great hot oil treatment for dry hair. I can't live without it and I highly recommend it.
