We have a "big" oil diffuser for our big downstairs area (Greenair Spa Vapor Advanced Wellness Instant Healthful Mist Therapy but I wanted to get a few unintrusive, smaller diffusers for the bedrooms and smaller areas of the house.

The Aura Cacia diffuser included in this kit is actually the Scentball Plug In Electric Diffuser (and has the name embossed into the plastic) and it comes packaged with a small glass vial of a special blend of essential oil specifically made for nursery environments. I was planning on using the diffuser with the jasmine Aura Cacia oil we tend to use, but both my husband and I liked the oil it came with that we used that.

Set up is super simplethe diffuser is the size of a tennis ball that plugs into an outlet. The kit includes several small squares that are meant to be soaked with the oil (the box recommended 5-15 drops, but we soaked the pads with about 15-20 drops). After you add oil to the pad, you simply slide the pad into the slot into the diffuser and plug it in. The little metal plate under the pad heats up, and the scent is diffused into the room. There's no air blowing, no fan, no motor. Just gentle heat. It's similar to a ring you put over lightbulbs, but you don't have to deal with burning your fingers and you can diffuse scents without turning on a light.

It IS discreet for a diffuser, but it's definitely not flush to the wall. It's best to use a traditional outlet setup (one outlet on top of the other as opposed to an outlet lined up horizontally) because of the way the "vent" of the diffuser is aligned. It will still scent the air if you tuck it behind desks or behind furniture, but it's best used where ventilated air can reach it and carry the scent.

Just rememberthis isn't a Glade plug-in or anything like that. It's not meant to be a fragrance powerhouse, it's meant to take a light essential oil and get it into the air. And with essential oils (the kind with no chemicals), the fragrance doesn't linger *after* it's being diffused because there are no chemicals to make it adhere to the air and stay. So if you are planning on using essential oils, just know that the fragrance is only noticeable when the diffuser is on.

And in order to keep the little metal plate that heats up in good shape, its best to add drops of oil to the diffuser on a daily basis. I have read reports that it "burns out" if the pad is too dry. So either unplug it or keep it moist. When you notice the scent dissipating, you can just add a few drops to the pad through the vent of the diffuser.

So far, so good. This is kind of a great deal for this diffuser, to be honest. You get the diffuser and a nice blend of oil for less than you would buy the diffuser alone.

We haven't had it long, so if anything happens (or if it stops working) I will absolutely update my review to reflect that. But this is exactly what I was looking fora simple, easy to use way to LIGHTLY add fragrance to the air.

After raving about this diffuser, it quit working. I've never had one quit working before unless I tried to clean it over-zealously with too much water. Taking away one star, but ordering another. The oil itself is pleasant and very soothing.

I love these diffusers. This package was the cheapest way to get one, with Amazon Prime (or something else to add up to over $25 & get free shipping). For the price, they simply cannot be beat. Since this is the best price for the item, get it and use with any natural, essential oil you choose (more on that later).

I haven't used this with infants. I didn't think there was anything that could be down with a bawling child, hence the book Go the F**k to Sleep. It soothes me, and seems to quiet my soon-to-be ex-husband sometimes. If you need long lasting fragrance, you will need a more expensive nebulizer with a timer.

Over the course of at least 13 yrs, probably closer to 16, I have 'burnt out' at least 2 by negligently leaving them plugged into the wall for months, killing the heating element. There was no reason to do this, the oils are completely diffused within a matter of hours, I simply forgot in underused areas like the basement.

These diffusers aren't particularly attractive. If your outlets require you to place it in a position other than horizontal, the pad may come out of contact with the heating element, greatly lessening its effectiveness. If the pad is not heated directly, the oils diffuse much more slowly. Depending upon the situation, that can mean they are unnoticeable, or that the fragrance is milder but lasts longer. This can be resolved by using a multi-plug AC adaptor providing the option of putting it at different angles (but making it protrude further from the wall). I stick mine hidden behind or below furniture, so that does not matter. I have never used one in an area larger than 12 x 30. The closer one is to it, the stronger the smell is.

Soak a pad with an oil that is not extremely heavy and your room and the one next to it will be filled with natural fragrance within 15 minutes. Natural oils do not last, so that it only lasts a few hours. If you use too much oil, they are diffused too rapidly that your room will be TOO filled with fragrance. How rapidly each is diffused depends upon the viscosity and molecular weight of each oil, so it is trial and error. Play around with it before you have company, but give your nose time to rest between attempts, too.

Before attempting to use this or any other warmer with NON essential oils, remember that those are artificial, unregulated and there are no laws requiring ingredients to be disclosed. There is no way to know exactly what artificial substances you are pumping into your air, nose, sinuses and lungs. This is also a much healthier way to fragrance your air than the smoke of incense.

Hints: Fragrance obscures other smells, not eliminates them. If your house stank of liver before using this, it will smell again when the oil wears off. If that is your issue, try an air purifier, an ionizer or a product like Smells Be Gone. Stock up on pads, they can be difficult to find!

When company is coming, throw in some oils that are commonly used in cleaning, such as lemon, orange, cedar and rosemary, and it will create the impression that you clean more than you do and probably that the environment is cleaner than it is. The effect of scent is largely unconscious. Studies have shown that both men and women find natural vanilla to be attractive and arousing. During cold and allergy seasons, peppermint, eucalyptus or camphor will help open the respiratory tract. I would strongly recommend against AURA CACIA, Essential Oil Patchouli (pogostemon cabin) .5 fl oz alone. Guests may think you use it to cover the smell of marijuana, and it lingers on & on. After 2 weeks on 2 drops (couldn't make the bottle drop just 1 drop), my apartment still smells of it. I am curious about some of the blends with it, like Essential Solutions Oil Chill Pill .5 oz EssOil. There may be better brands than Aura Cacia, but I have been satisfied with it for 22 yrs. Even an extremely expensive oil like Sandalwood is still reasonable with a thinned version Aura Cacia Precious Essentials Sandalwood Blended with Jojoba Oil -0.5 fl oz. Thinned works fine with that oil. Whatever you do, thin Jasmine AURA CACIA, Precious Essentials Oil Jasmine Absolute w/Jojoba .5 fl oz. At full strength it is offensive, strongly thinned it is lovely if still quite floral. I have smelled better versions of Essential Oil Neroli and Jojoba 0.50 Ounces, but theirs may not be thinned enough. NOW Foods, GRAPE SEED OIL 4 OZ ( Multi-Pack) was recommended by a professional blender as the best product with which to thin oils. Thinning means you might need to waste some of your pricey oils, or get brown bottles Boston Round Bottles, 2 Oz Pack of 12 in which to store the larger volume of thinned oil.

I bought this to use in my 1st daughter's room. At first I used it with the nursery blend only at bed time. It gets hot and once she moved to a toddler bed, I took it out of her room. Now at 6, I'm putting it back in to use with lavender and the calming nursery blend to help her get to relax before bed time. I've also started using a second one in my youngest daughter's room. I had forgotten about it until she had a nasty cold. I used some Eucalyptus oil and it seemed to help her a little over night. After her cold cleared, she didn't want to go to sleep while awake, so I tried it with the calming nursery blend and once again, it seems to help her relax when I put her down awake. I put about 10 drops on her pad last night and this morning the room still smelled. Actually there was enough smell left that I just plugged it back in at nap time without adding any more EO. If you want something to use throughout the entire day, this isn't your item, but if you want something for a shorter period of time, this works very well. I'll be ordering more for my son's room, my room, and my new nephew's as well.

I purchased this and have been trying many different oils. I was hoping for at least a light scent to permeate my tiny bathroom, as it is even with the door closed the scent permeates about 2 feet from the plug in and that's about it. It isn't very strong, and it dries out relatively quickly. It may work for some, but for my purposes it was a waste of money.

We bought this after taking a baby pre class. The Douala who led the class used one of these with various calming scents to help people associate the smell of lavender with being comfortable, prepared and mellow. We brought this bad boy to the hospital with us and had it in the delivery room and recovery room to get our mind in a good, calm place. The olfactory sense is very powerful and the associations, conscious or subconscious, that it can establish in the mind are amazing.
