Most of the highly rated omega-3 fish oil products are listed. Nordic Naturals Pro Omega Lemon Flavor is listed as a five star omega-3 fish oil product, which is the highest rating attainable.

POTENCY: Nutrigold Triple Strength Omega-3 Gold has the highest omega-3 fish oil potency of any in this group (85%); Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Xtra is next (70%); Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega is next (64%); and Nordic Naturals Pro Omega Lemon Flavor has the lowest omega-3 fish oil potency in this group (60%). Nordic Naturals Pro Omega Lemon Flavor, Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Xtra and Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega do not have particularly high omega-3 fish oil potency.

PRICE: Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Xtra is the highest priced omega-3 fish oil in this group ($.43 per gel cap). This is a very high price for an omega-3 fish oil product that is not particularly potent. Nordic Naturals Pro Omega Lemon Flavor and Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega, with less potency, costs $.27 per gel cap. That price is not bad, but it's not great considering the low potency of that omega-3 fish oil product. Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold is the least expensive omega-3 fish oil in this group ($.20 per gel cap). However, Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold has by far the highest omega-3 potency in this group, making it by far the best value. If price is a major concern with a superior omega-3 fish oil product, Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold is an excellent option.

PILL SIZE: Nutrigold Triple Strength Omega-3 Gold has the largest pill size of this group (1250 mgs). The pill size of Nordic Naturals Pro Omega Lemon Flavor, Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Xtra, and Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega are the same (1000 mgs). In terms of size, all of these gel caps are manageable for most folks.

SOY/GMOS: None of these products contain soy or GMOs.

VITAMIN D3: Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega Xtra contains 1000 I.U. of Vitamin D3. I don't believe this is terribly significant, as Vitamin D3 can be purchased for very little money, and lots of folks who take it consume more than 1000 I.U. daily. It is my opinion that Vitamin D3 is an unnecessary additive.

MEALS: Any ethyl esters based and triglycerides based omega-3 fish oils are best taken with a meal containing some fat, as they are more efficiently absorbed when taken with food.

TRIGLYCERIDES FORM VS ETHYL ESTERS FORM: there is some belief that the triglycerides form of omega-3 fish oil is better than the ethyl esters form, but I don't believe this debate is conclusive one way or the other, or that it makes a significant difference in terms of quality. It is my opinion that both forms of omega-3 fish oils are, for all intents and purposes, the same, assuming you take them both with a meal containing some fat and you continue their use over a longer period of time (say, more than one month).

OPINION: Nordic Naturals Pro Omega Lemon Flavor is a quality omega-3 fish oil product with some significant drawbacks. It is IFOS five star rated, contains no soy or GMOs, contains no mercury, and is molecularly distilled. Its price is reasonably low ($.27 per gel cap). However, it has low omega-3 fish oil potency (60%). When you measure Nordic Naturals Pro Omega Lemon Flavor against Nutrigold Triple Strength Omega-3 Gold, it doesn't measure up in terms of price ($.19 per gel cap), or omega-3 fish oil potency (85%).

This product is excellent. However, I am hard pressed to find any difference between ProOmega and Ultimate Omega. They have identical ingredients and nutritional value. I guess just pick the least expensive of the two.
