I saw this on sale half off at the local supermarket so I got one to try out. Schiff is a well known brand. This one advertises Double Strength in bold, the fine print actually says one of these capsules contains double the Omega-3 usually found in 2 regular capsules.

Value: It's hard to find the best deal because the serving sizes and potencies can be so different. In my opinion, the best way to find the best deal is to find the cost per gram or mg of total Omega-3 and compare. This bottle contains 60 gels. Each gel contains 360mg EPA + 240mg DHA = 600mg EPA/DHA. I use EPA and DHA because these are the two most important fatty acids. So the total amount of EPA/DHA in a bottle is 600mg x 60 = 36g total EPA/DHA per bottle. Divide the price of the bottle by 36g will give you the price per gram for comparison purposes.

Safety: Screened for PCBs, mercury and other toxins. Don't even think of buying any brand that doesn't screen for these.

Taste: I bit through one and am happy to say that it does not contain any fishy taste to me.

Potency: The serving size is 1 capsule and you get 1000mg fish oil of which 600mg is EPA/DHA.

Source: Cold water wild fish (not farmed), sardines, anchovy and mackerel.

Method: Molecular distillation. However, this usually means that the omega-3 is the ethyl ester form, which is not absorbed as well as other forms.

Summary: 600mg EPA/DHA in one capsule, but in the EE form. I typically take more than one brand at a time to vary the type of omega-3's I get. I deducted 1/2 a star because the O-3 is in the EE form, but I will include these capsules in my rotation.
