According to Consumer Labs, chromatographic analysis of this product (RxOmega-3 Factors) came up far short of their label claims of EPA and DHA despite their marketing statement that it is "one of the highest potencies of EPA and DHA available". In fact, their product only contains 83.3% of the label claims. It is also one of the more expensive ones on the market. Its claims to be "Pharmaceutical Grade", are completely meaningless because the FDA doesn't grade fish oil, so there's no such thing as "Pharmaceutical Grade". It's just made-up marketing gibberish.

When CL published their test results, the manufacturer asked CL to retest with a different independent lab agreeable to both. CL agreed but insisted that the lab report, whatever it may say, would be published unedited. The manufacturer then backed out and refused the test unless the independent report could be redacted or edited. Beware and do your research!

Meanwhile, the comprehensive report also reported on Life Extension Super Omega-3. It passed all their tests for EPA and DHA concentration and total quantity and was free of contaminants (lead, PCBs, others). It also passed their spoilage test (TOTOX < 27). Best of all, it's one of the least expensive Omega-3 products available. A daily dose comes to about 3 cents. I've switched to this brand and will edit this report once I have some experience with it.

I have no reason to endorse that brand other than it passed CL's testing and I'm using it. CL also found many other brands with accurate labeling of EPA/DHA content and of high quality with no contaminants and low rancidity (TOTOX < 27). As a point of neutrality, here are three: Garden of Life Oceans 3 Beyond, PregnancyPlus Omega-3, and Swanson EFA's Super EPA (the best value of all tested).

UPDATE: I've been using this for a few months now (April through August). I take six capsules a day, three morning and three evening. This comes to a total EPA and DHA slightly higher than the standard prescription Lovasa dose. I chose this dosage because five capsules comes to slightly less than the standard Lovasa dose, so I chose the slightly higher dose to stay therapeutically competitive with Lovasa.

My recent triglyceride assays come out about equivalent to when I was taking prescription Lovasa but for a MUCH lower cost. Additional research leads me to believe that the oil for this product comes from the same type of process (molecular distillation) that Lovasa comes from, though I'm sure the prescription Lovasa must pass more stringent certifications.

Given that I'm getting the same effective therapeutic results as with the FAR more expensive Lovasa (even with my excellent insurance coverage), I see no reason to return to Lovasa. My doctor was somewhat skeptical of this experiment but now agrees with my decision.

Once again, I'm not advocating this particular brand. There are others I'm convinced are just as good if they have International Fish Oil Standards Program (IFOS) certification. I just happened on this one because it's competitively priced, well packaged, and easily available through Amazon. If you subscribe for Amazon's automatic replenishment program, it's cheaper still and you'll never run out because they send one every month.

One last thing. I made the mistake of ordering elsewhere online what I thought was an outstanding value because it was a bottle with 240 capsules for the same price as Amazon has on the 120 capsule sku. Unfortunately, when something is too good to be true, it usually is. The 240 capsule version is in half-sized capsules for easier swallowing. You get the same total amount of fish oil in either case, so beware. It's not really half the price. I have no trouble swallowing the larger capsules, so that's what I'm using.

I have been taking fish oil for years. As I have increased the dosage to provide added benefits, there has been a problem with mild fish burps.

Someone suggested freezing the capsules to allow them to stay solid until they were past the stomach.

I was told that pharmaceutical grade fish oil had fewer problems.

I have used this product for the past year without any fish burps or any indigestion. I take four capsules each morning and have no GI or other problems. As an aside, my blood pressure and cholesterol is down without prescription drugs.

I've been using Dr. Murray's omega3 softgels since the beginning of my pregnancy. Now i have a 3 month old and am still using it, it's good for baby's brain development. Although this pharmaceutical grade concentrate is from fish oil, it has literally no fish oil smell or taste in it! I never had nausea using it throughout pregnancy. I have ordered this product twice after a recommendation from a co-worker. I have found that it has lowered my cholesterol significantly. It does not have a "fishy" taste as do some of the other ones I have tried. I will definitely purchase again and again.

Pharmaceutical grade fish oil is good for you. I have ultra low LDL and HDL cholesterol so to bolster the good cholesterol I use this product and have for several years. Having had my gallbladder removed I take it with Cholacol (not Cholacol II from Standard Process, which is bovine bile tablets. Heartily recommend this product to all.
