There are many essential oils that work well against biting insects. The lemongrass essential oil has an amazing summery fresh aroma that helps balance out the rest of the citrus notes in a homemade bug spray that I make. I use it as a summer spray to repel bugs, but not friends and smell nice, too. Of course, smell is subjective, so you might want to adjust the quantity according to what smells nice on you.
This is the recipe that I use.
3.5 ounces rose water
15 drops Bergamot essential oil
10 drops orange essential oil
10 drops lemongrass essential oil.
It is not as effective as DEET, but it is a good natural alternative and smells much nicer.
I chose the Nature's Kiss product because it is 100% pure and has the aroma that I wanted.I'm fairly new to essential oils but I do like the quality of this one. I used it to make bug spray for my 6 month old and it's really helped keep the bugs off of my little girl. Not only is it safe for her it's also safer for us and as a mom that's very important to me. I can even use it on the dogs. The smell is perfect, not too strong, just lovely! I used it on a mixture with other oils to kill dust mites. It made my house smell great too.Haven't had time enough to see result yet it smell very good will update you later like it a lot.I used it in my homemade bug spray and it works well and smells wonderful. I would recommend this oil.
