Many supplements go in "waves" of popularity and curcumin is currently one of the more fashionable supplements. Unfortunately, as is the case with many types of supplements, people buy them after they are sick and expect them to act like medicine and heal their problems. All supplements, including this one, are aids in assisting health, not curing disease. That being said, curcumin has been proven to help with inflammatory diseases like arthritis. It also is linked to lower incidence of Alzheimer's disease so, if your family history puts you at risk, you may want to take advantage of that potential benefit along with the other benefits of this type of supplement (antioxidant/cancer preventative).
As for this supplement, it has a bonus that some others do not in that it includes black pepper fruit extract. Neither curcumin nor turmeric, from which curcumin is derived, are well-absorbed by the digestive system without the presence of black pepper. When the bottle mentions "bioavailability", they're talking about the fact that the formula used in this supplement will increase the chances that your body can digest and utilize the curcumin. In fact, it is very important that any such supplement include black pepper (Bioperine).
These supplements have a stronger "spicy" smell than some others, but it's actually a very pleasant one. The capsules are clear and filled with a bright yellow powder and slightly big. However, they should be easy enough to swallow unless you have a condition which makes swallowing difficult. I didn't have any issues with them. There is no reflux or aftertaste after taking these with food. The bottle recommends taking them 2-3 times per day, and if you have an inflammatory disease that you're trying to manage using curcumin, that may not be a bad idea, but each capsule is 500 mg. and well within the range of 400-600 mg that is recommended by health care practitioners (such as Dr. Andrew Weil) who endorse the use of curcumin. One capsule will probably suffice for most people. I'm not a vegetarian, but these capsules do not contain animal products. At 21 cents a capsule, it's not the cheapest curcumin that you can find (nor the most expensive), but it does contain all you need in one capsule and you can have greater confidence that you'll actually reap the benefits of the supplement.

I take a number of nutritional supplements for various reasons. The residual effects of seven spinal surgeries have left me in moderate pain most of the time, and osteoarthritis is having its effect now, also. My doctor has asked me to stop taking NSAIDS because of kidney issues, so some of the supplements, such as bromelain and fish oil, are to help with inflammatory pain. Some of the other supplements, including resveratrol and quercetin, are antioxidants that I think will decrease my chances of getting certain diseases. Serendipitously, I found that quercetin had a noticeable effect in controlling my glucose levels.Curcumin is a new one on me, however. I tried another brand for a few weeks with fairly inconclusive results. Since I had seen so many positive testimonials about the benefits of curcumin, I did some online research for myself. I learned that curcumin is found in the spice turmeric, which is in the ginger family. Some preliminary studies have found curcumin to have significant anti-inflammatory properties and possibly beneficial effects on Alzheimer's, certain types of cancer, cardiac health, and that curcumin may have a synergistic effect with fish oil on preventing dementia. One study indicated that curcumin may increase insulin output from the pancreas, which would be a boon for diabetes patients like myself.
The Viva Labs curcumin label indicates that the formula is standardized to 95% curcuminoids. "Standardized" is a term which means a supplement contains a guaranteed amount of a certain botanical constituent, in this case curcumin, and is laboratory tested to insure consistent potency. I've looked at other brands of curcumin, and not all of them are standardized, so you don't always know what you're really getting. One interesting note: The Viva Labs curcumin complex contains Bioperine (also known as piperine), a compound found in black pepper which aids absorption of curcumin into the bloodstream. I checked other brands of curcumin that Amazon sells, and only a few products contain piperine.
So having found out as much as I could about curcumin, I've been taking two 500mg capsules a day of the Viva Labs Curcumin with Bioperine for the past week. I've had no adverse side effects, so I'll try three capsules a day. As for as inflammatory pain goes, I haven't noticed any difference, but anti-inflammatories can take time to reach their full effectiveness. I have been getting slightly improved glucose readings, maybe 5 points lower. This morning's reading was 95, whereas my typical fasting level is about 100. That's hardly conclusive, but it's promising.
All things considered, I'm convinced that curcumin is a valuable supplement that has a number of beneficial properties. With a standardized level of curcuminoids, plus the synergistic effect of Bioperine, I believe that the Viva Labs Curcumin C3 with Bioperine is an effective product that will benefit me in the short term with pain management and diabetes control, and long term with the antioxidant properties.

I've taken Curcumin supplements for a couple of years as a replacement for pharmaceutical products in order to treat chronic inflammation in my neck and back. In general, I get the same or better results than I did when taking Celebrex, without destroying my liver. I was provided a sample bottle of this product from Viva Labs, and I was quite impressed. First of all, the capsules were sealed well enough that I didn't get "cheeto-fingers," from handling them, which has been a problem with other Curcumin products. From a more practical standpoint, I got all the benefits of a high quality Curcumin supplement, without heartburn or other side effects. This product controls my inflammation and reduces joint pain levels. The main thing to know about this Viva Labs products versus the other popular cur cumin c3 products is:1) This one has 120 capsules each with 500 mg of cur cumin c3 and also bioperine. Bioperine magnifies the absorption of curcumin.
2) The most popular brand on Amazon does the same thing, but costs 20% more at the time I'm submitting this review.
Curcumin comes from turmeric. Some popular TV doctors have highlighted health benefits of turmeric. For this reason, it's widely known that some dementia illnesses are far less common in India where people use turmeric in food.My daughter, a naturopath recommended curcumin endless times as a great product for anti-agining. Since turning 53, I've been taking Curcumin daily and is a staple of my medicine cabinet. I love this brand as their turmeric/curcumin contains 5mg of bioperine vs. 3mg in most other products.
