We first became aware of EMU oil when we discovered an Emu farm about 20 minutes from where we live. We did a tour of the place, saw the birds up close and learned a lot about them. Of course the local farm was selling emu creams, oils, tablets, eggs, meat, etc.

They claim that for centuries the Aborigines used it to cure many different types of health conditions. Native Australians use the oil to treat the following symptoms:

coughs

arthritic joints

bruises

cuts

sunburns

pain

itching

swelling caused by insect bites

sores

fevers

Some of the literature they had on hand showed Emu oil contains a variety of fatty acids including oleic, linolenic and linoleic oils. They claim it has been proven to be the fastest and most penetrating oil into the skin, as well as a trans dermal carrier for any other added therapeutic ingredients or skin care. They gave us samples for our hands. I am not one to use hand creams and the like because I don't like the greasy feeling it leaves behind. But I must say that the oil was absorbed very fast into my hands and they felt soft and not greasy green check mark for me. I have sensitive skin and this stuff appears to be pretty gentle. The literature says Emu Oil is gentle for all skin types, non-toxic & natural, non-comedogenic (does not clog pores) and hypo-allergenic (non-irritating) so its great for people with sensitive skin and allergies.

I have a problem with sore hands perhaps carpal tunnel, but in that area on my right hand. The literature says Emu Oil is effective in its anti-inflammatory properties. The store had some roll-on cream with capsaicin that I picked up. It does have a soothing effect and makes my hand feel better another green check for me.

So now the health benefits of taking it internally. The oil contains both omega-3 and omega 6 fatty acids, and of course these are extremely good for the body and especially the heart. Omega-3 increases HDL cholesterol or the good guy! It also decreases LDL cholesterol which is the bad guy. The capsules are kind of expensive as are all the Emu products at the store. So I took a pass on the capsules available at the store. instead I check Amazon.com to see what was available and I found these which were also priced reasonably. I picked them up and both the wife and I take them. My wife has a slight cholesterol problem and I do not. But we both take them. We have not been taking these for too long, but her last checkup showed a slightly reduced total cholesterol level which is good. Mine is always below 200, so I am just taking these more for maintenance purposes. I am 66 years old and do not take any prescription drugs, still have all my teeth, and wear a pedometer to make sure I get my 10,000 steps a day into my daily regimen. So, anything I can do to improve my odds, I do it. I feel good taking these capsules and my wife's cholesterol levels seem to be going down. So, another green check for me.

It appears that Emu oil has served human beings for centuries and there's evidence that it helps with so many ailments. But of course this really boils down to personal choice as the FDA won't officially recognize it. Take advice before you use it, but if you do for whatever reason, I believe you'll find it a good friend.

I have been using EMU Oil gel caps for 7 years now, the bottle says to take 2 -3 a day, I only take 1 a day, I have not had a cold in 7 years, I start taking them the end of October and quit taking them the end of April. I would recommend these to anyone who hates getting colds. *** My Husband, my daughter and one of my friends can not take them, Because they end up getting diarrhea from the oil in the gels.*** I guess it depends on your system, that does NOT happen to me.
