This is an extremely gentle cleansing product. It doesn't have any of the exfoliating agents that a lot of toothpastes have, which is great in most respects. If you have a problem with food stains, then you might need to do an occasional scrub with some baking soda or a paste toothpaste. I haven't experienced this, though.
I use between 3-5 drops. I used to use 2 and my teeth felt perfectly clean afterward, but I ramped it up recently to experiment. I think it's no different than using paste just use enough that you feel like you're getting good coverage. I have found that it's important to wet your brush and then knock the excess water off, before applying the Tooth Soap. Otherwise, it drips off with the excess water. Oh, btw! Unlike the peppermint flavor, this liquid is brown. I find it convenient, since now I can see how much is on my brush, but it might look yuk to some, I guess. So get one of the other flavors if that's you.
The fruit punch flavor reminds me of Fruit Stripes gum. Like the peppermint flavor, it's pretty mild, but enough to keep your focus off the soap. To me, the flavor of the ingredients (soap, oil, etc) has never been off-putting. You're just not really using a large enough quantity for it to be very noticeable, unless you're super sensitive, I guess. I actually find it reassuring that the stuff I'm washing with no longer tastes like sugary candy. I mean, I like flavors and scents as much as the next person, but, as another reviewer pointed out, it's great that when you're done washing your teeth, your mouth isn't so coated with residue that it makes stuff taste weird.
