DEVA Vegan Vitamins Vegan DHA (Algae) 200mg Vegan Softgels, 90-Count Bottle

Without two or three servings of fish weekly, it is very difficult to get enough DHA in the diet. I am allergic to many fish and fish oils making it almost impossible. Omega 3 oils include both EPA and DHA. I take ground flax seed to obtain the ALA but it does not have the DHA needed. Krill Oil is considerably more expensive, and has 1/5th the DHA of DEVA Algae oil.

I strongly suggest avoiding "discount" suppliers of the algae oil. Some of these reviews note a strong or unpleasant flavor or taste as well as capsules that are hard or fishy. These are indicative of "old" product which SHOULD BE RETURNED. For a product like this, you should always check the "Seller Ratings" and DO NOT PURCHASE BASED ON PRICE (like I did). If the seller has negative ratings for very late shipping, sending the wrong product, or sending old product, they are a discounter and SHOULD BE AVOIDED.

Overall, this is a wonderful product.

Love, love, love this product! I have been looking for a vegan DHA ever since my naturopathic physician suggested I take this supplement (the one he recommended came in a gelatin based capsule that I had to squeeze the contents out of which was completely nauseating). DEVA uses high-quality DHA that doesn't leave any aftertaste or negative side effects. The capsules glide down your throat with ease and I feel like this supplement is helpful for my body.

Whether the DHA is doing anything for me I can't say for sure. I do think I finish newspaper puzzles faster because of it, but that's not based on any scientific study. What I like about these capsules is that they look fresh. A previous version of these used a casing that looked like the capsules were quite old and seemed rigid, if not more difficult to swallow. These are not unlike my wife's gelatin based capsules. As a committed vegetarian (who would have thought that I would out myself on Amazon) it was important to not use animal products at all and DEVA's product lives up to that and the quality of the product is an added bonus.

I have been buying this supplement monthly for my vegetarian household for more than a year, using the very convenient "subscribe and save" option with Amazon. I recently noticed, however, that the manufacturer has changed the ingredients -now the first listed "other" ingredient is sunflower oil!

We have been trying to boost Omega-3 DHA consumption while cutting back on the consumption of oils such as sunflower, safflower, etc. We do not want to take a daily supplement of sunflower oil!

On Amazon, the manufacturer continues to list the "other" ingredients as "Carrageenan, Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Purified Water, Natural Vitamin E, Lemon Oil, Sorbitol." However, if you order this item, the bottle you will receive actually contains these "other" ingredients (note that sunflower oil is first): "High Oleic Sunflower Oil, Carrageenan, Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Purified Water, Natural Vitamin E, Lemon Oil, Silicon Dioxide, Sorbitol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Sunflower Lecithin, and Rosemary Extract."

I think it's misleading to continue to advertise the old ingredients after making this change. Many people may not care one way or the other -but I think the company should at least be up front about what is in this product and then let people judge for themselves about whether it fits their needs.

I was concerned about the reviews that said this pill had a fishy taste/smell. However, with being vegetarian I am hell-bent in getting my baby and myself the proper nutrients so I went with it. Man, was I glad I did!. It's been almost a year and am now on the tail end of my pregnancy and I am still very happy with this pill. It didn't even bother me through my first trimester nausea. I did take a tip from another reviewer and refrigerate the pills right away. If you're on the fence about trying this out, I think you should go ahead and go for it.
