It's easy to get confused by what fish oil to buy. You're basically looking for two things quantity of active ingredient and purity. EPA and DHA are the active, helpful component of fish oil and these are the numbers you want to pay attention to. Far too many fish oil supplements only list the amount of oil in the capsule (usually 1000mg or 1200mg) in large print on the front label. This can be deceiving because the active ingredient is generally only 300mg (180mg EPA, 120mg DHA). This 180/120 formulation is indicative of fishoil that whose quality and potency can best be described as "baseline". The cheap 180/120 store brand fish oils are also of suspect purity as well. They are probably "ok", but most of them are rebranded bargain basement formulations so you're not quite sure what you're getting without doing research.
So where does that leave us with this product? Well, NOW Super EPA is a 320/240 potency formulation which means it has twice the active ingredient as most baseline formulas. These capsules are no bigger than standard 1000mg capsules, so it's not like you're swallowing a horse pill either. NOW has a very solid reputation in the supplement industry for potent, high quality supplements. You can trust the purity claims on this product.
So here is some math to show you what you're getting for your money. 360mg EPA + 240mg DHA = 600mg active ingredient per softgel. 240 softgels = 144grams active ingredient per bottle. At approximately $23/bottle at the time of this review, that is 16 cent per gram of active ingredient.
After doing a fair amount of research, this was the lowest price I could find from a reputable manufacturer. Buy with confidence knowing you got a great deal here.

This omega 3 product is fish-oil based, screened for mercury/heavy metals. Large gel caps but narrow width so they're easy to swallow. Good price for this quantity and content. The seller was prompt with emails and provided a tracking number, however, the shipment arrived quickly so I didn't need to check up on tracking. :)2 of these provide the recommended over 500mg/day of EPA for brain (depression, ADD, Alzheimers) and general heart health. [If you have heart disease, however, you may need twice as much or more, so you really want to check with your physician about dosing, bleeding risks, and other medications before taking more; also a different formulation may be more cost effective for you.] If you have reflux or GERD, you may have the occasional "fishy" burp. I don't think there's any way around that with omega 3 oils, but the benefits outweigh this issue. Some people may prefer a capsule to salmon, sardines, and tuna 3 times a week. :}I ordered this when my locally-bought supply of Omega 3 capsules started running low. The price per unit (how much Omega 3 EPA and DHA I'm getting for my money) is about 1/4 of what I was paying in our local store, and the quality is much higher. This is molecularly distilled, so I also know I don't have to worry about mercury or other heavy metal contaminants.
It's great oil at a great price and the shipping was really fast what more could we ask for?
Update: With the news that Fukushima radiation is contaminating northern Pacific sealife at an alarming rate, I recently contacted NOW Foods to ask where the fish for this oil are harvested, and was told they're caught off the coast of Peru. This area is predicted to remain free from Fukushima radiation, and so eliminates this concern (unlike the risks with salmon or krill that are harvested in the northern Pacific). And since fish are notorious for refusing to stay in just one area of the ocean, NOW foods additionally tests for radiation to ensure none of their products have been contaminated in this way. I emailed NOW Foods for this information, and received a reply just a few hours later. This also speaks incredibly well for their customer service.
I believe that most name brand products generally just cost more without offering any extra benefits or quality, and so I very rarely look for a specific brand of anything. However, I've become committed to the NOW Foods brand, simply because I know I can trust in the safety of the product. And the low price is an extra bonus I don't normally find in a brand I feel I can trust. It's a bit scary to think of any of the supplements I take to stay healthy actually doing harm instead it seems these days we have to be especially careful about the quality and safety of nearly all supplements. I'm really glad to have found at least one product I can buy without concern, and am seriously considering buying all my supplements from NOW Foods from now on.
And no, I don't work for NOW Foods. I was neither asked to write this review nor rewarded for doing so. But if it's fair to warn others when I have a bad experience with a company, it's only fair to let others know when I have a great experience too.

I have used NOW Foods as an excellent source of concentrated EPA and DHA for several years. I like this supplement and have had no trouble swallowing this NOW capsule with water (or other liquids). As both a PhD chemist and a retired University Professor, I know it is important that actual amounts in grams are specifically given for each of the two long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, that are encapsulated together. (Some other sources of omega-3 fatty acids show only a single combined amount for these two acids which is very imprecise information). This NOW supplement is an essential part of my own total blood cholesterol-control regimen, which also includes a low-dose statin and high-dose, fast-release niacin: at present, my total blood cholesterol is well-below 200 (including my unusually-high HDL-cholesterol level about half of the total). In addition, the cost per capsule of this NOW Foods product is very reasonable from Amazon; especially when it is purchased through Amazon's Subscribe and Save Program. You can't buy a higher quality fish oil with such a high concentration of EPA/DHA. The only down side is that they cause nasty fish burps. Thankfully this is easily remedied by freezing them, and taking them before a meal.
