There are a few super omega-3 fish oil products that are known for quality, among them, Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega D3 Sport, Garden of Life Minami Nutrition Platinum Omega 3 Plus D3 Formula, OmegaVia Pharma-Grade Fish Oil, Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold, and Norwegian Gold Ultimate Fish Oils Super Critical Omega (there are others, but I'm using these for comparative purposes).
There are three major components of omega-3 in these products: EPA (which is good for your heart, circulatory system, lowering triglycerides, depression and mood orientation, and is a powerful anti-inflammatory for soothing joint pains), DHA (which is good for your mental acuity, or if you are pregnant, nursing an infant, or for children), and "other." Other omega-3s, like DPA and SDA, are types of fatty acids which are easily converted to EPA in the body. In most fish oils, the amount of these other fatty acids is low, but in highly concentrated oils, it can be a significant amount. The important components are EPA and DHA.

IFOS: The International Fish Oil Standards Program ("IFOS") (Google "IFOS consumer reports") is an independent third party omega-3 testing organization that provides batch-specific summaries of a product's IFOS testing results. The reports include a 5-star rating for each product containing greater than 60% concentration of EPA and DHA per gram of fish oil, allowing consumers to compare fish oil products based on their safety, purity and quality. Most of the highly rated omega-3 fish oil products are listed. Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega D3 Sport is listed as a five star omega-3 fish oil product, which is the highest rating attainable.
SUPERCRITICAL DUAL-PROCESS CO2 TECHNOLOGY: Minami Nutrition products are not molecularly distilled. They use a patented Supercritical Dual-Process CO2 technology. Minami's patented Supercritical Dual-Process CO2 technology concentrates Omega-3s, yielding unique selectivity of the most biologically active Omega-3 fatty acids--EPA and DHA. Using less heat, less repeat processing, and natural Carbon Dioxide as a solvent, allows Minami to reach peak concentrations of 95% Omega-3, omitting superfluous fats and fillers. 400% less heat than molecular distillation is used during the entire process, with no oxygen exposure. Natural CO2 is used as an alternative to organic solvents and protects the final product from oxidation.
POTENCY: Garden of Life Minami Nutrition Platinum Omega 3 Plus D3 Formula has the highest omega-3 fish oil potency of any in this group (89%); OmegaVia Pharma-Grade Fish Oil and Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold have slightly less omega-3 fish oil potency (85% each); Norwegian Gold Ultimate Fish Oils Super Critical Omega has less potency (77%); and Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega D3 Sport has the lowest potency in this group (60%).
PRICE: Norwegian Gold Ultimate Fish Oils Super Critical Omega is at the highest (most expensive) end of the comparison; Garden of Life Minami Nutrition Platinum Omega 3 Plus D3 Formula and OmegaVia Pharma-Grade Fish Oil are mid-range in the price comparison; Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega D3 Sport is slightly less expensive; and Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold is at the lowest (least expensive) end of the comparison. If price is a major concern with a superior omega-3 fish oil product, Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold is an excellent option.
PILL SIZE: OmegaVia Pharma-Grade Fish Oil (1300 mgs) and Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold (1250 mgs), Garden of Life Minami Nutrition Platinum Omega 3 Plus D3 Formula (1218 mgs), and Norwegian Gold Ultimate Fish Oils Super Critical Omega (1200 mgs) are at the higher (larger) end of the comparison and Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega D3 Sport (1000 mgs) is at the lower (smaller) end of the comparison. In terms of size, all of these gel caps are manageable for most folks.
VITAMIN D3: Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega D3 Sport and Norwegian Gold Ultimate Fish Oils Super Critical Omega contain 1000 I.U. of Vitamin D3 and Garden of Life Minami Nutrition Platinum Omega 3 Plus D3 Formula contains 300 I.U. of Vitamin D3. I don't believe this is terribly significant, as Vitamin D3 can be purchased for very little money, and lots of folks who take it consume more than 1000 I.U. daily. It is my opinion that Vitamin D3 is an unnecessary additive.
MEALS: Any ethyl esters based and triglycerides based omega-3 fish oils are best taken with a meal containing some fat, as they are more efficiently absorbed when taken with food.
THE LOVAZA COMPARISON: While Garden of Life Minami Nutrition Platinum Omega 3 Plus D3 Formula, OmegaVia Pharma-Grade Fish Oil, and Nutrigold Triple Strength Fish Oil Omega-3 Gold are expensive for high grade omega-3 fish oil products, by comparison with a popular and well-known FDA approved prescription drug, Lovaza, which is made from omega-3 fish oil and used to control triglycerides, these three supplements are cheap. Each Lovaza 1000 mg capsule has 840 mgs of omega-3 fish oil (800 mgs of EPA and 40 mgs of DHA). Lovaza costs about $260.00 for a bottle of 120 pills, or about $2.17 per pill. Each of the other three omega-3 fish oil supplements cost far less for a bottle of pills and for an individual gel cap. You get far more EPA and DHA per gel cap from each of these omega-3 fish oil supplements than you do from Lovaza at a fraction of the cost, and they're non-prescriptive. All of this poses an interesting question for Lovaza users: If these omega-3 fish oil supplements have more omega-3 fish oil potency than Lovaza per gel cap at a fraction of the cost, and they're non-prescriptive, why not use them instead of Lovaza? This is a question Lovaza users may want to ask their physicians, pharmacists or nutritionists.
OPINION: There are a number of things I like about Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega D3 Sport. The company is ethical and forthcoming with information about its products; it is IFOS five star rated; it contains no soy; it contains no GMOs; it is mercury free; and it is molecularly distilled. On the other hand, its omega-3 fish oil potency is not particularly high (60%); it contains small amounts of cholesterol; it is not certified Kosher; and it is expensive when compared to the other omega-3 fish oil supplements, especially considering its low omega-3 fish oil potency. On balance, in my opinion, Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega D3 Sport's positive aspects outweigh its negative aspects. However, I deducted one star because its omega-3 fish oil potency is relatively low, especially when compared to others in this group, and it is expensive, especially considering its low potency.

No after taste no fishy smell and a great price.I researched all over after being introduced to it by Athletes Performance in Pensacola FL. They recommend it and give it to the Pro and Tactical Athletes. It also carries a NSF tag certifying that what is listed as being in the product is in the product. Given the stringent guidelines for what Pro and Tactical Athletes can and cannot take, this is a great marker for knowing what is in a product.

Quick delivery and it has helped me lower my cholesterol. High dose fish oil made me feel like I was on caffeine without the jitters. With a low carb diet, the addition of the high dose fish oil has improved my health decreased my need for more sleep and improved my blood sugar levels.Wish it wasn't discontinued. I wish they would bring it back. Hard to find a product with that much Omega3 packed in 1 pill.
